Giles Earnshaw Tilley
Giles Earnshaw Tilley was born 3 February 1953 in Southport, Lancashire, to Wilfred Bruce Tilley (1913-2002) and Jenny Earnshaw (1917-72). He moved to London aged three and remained around Notting Hill, W11, for 30 years.
He attended school in London – Mill Hill – then went on to New College Oxford where he did a degree in Geography from 1973 to 1976. He lived in London where he worked for 10 years before moving to the Cotswolds around 1986.
In 1988, he met Dawn Fraser (b. August 1962) from Belfast, Ireland while in Rajasthan, India and they married and settled in the Cotswolds. Their daughter, Yasmin, was born in Cheltenham in September 1991. Soon after, they moved on business to Mallorca, Spain, where their son Ryan was born in October 1995.
After several years another career move saw them live in Dubai, then they travelled on business to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1998. Realising the tropical beauty and wonderful environment, to say nothing of over 300 sunshine days a year, Giles finally put roots down in this amazing part of the world and raised his family here. Never a dull moment in Australia, whether it is dangerous snakes, venomous spiders and huge tarantulas, or tropical cyclones, dust storms to serious thunderstorms, drought to swimming with dolphins, it is all here.
