Matthew Tilley
We can trace our roots back to Matthew who spelt the family name without an “e” Tilly. He was born in about 1700. He married Anne Baller (1706-1784), the daughter of Henry and Mary Baller, on 22 April 1729 at St Gregory’s Church, Weare. They had three sons, Matthew, born in 1739, Jeremiah, born in 1743 and Henry (1750-1819), as well as three daughters. Mary was born in 1731, Jane in 1737 and Margarett in 1746.
Matthew died in 1768 and was buried at St Gregory’s Church, Weare, on 10 December. Anne died in 1784 and was buried also at St Gregory’s Church on 5 March.
